Ep 80: The Lighthouse

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH A DRUNKEN SAILOR?

We take a look at Robert Eggers’s latest THE LIGHTHOUSE which stars Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson as a couple of salty sea dogs tending a secluded lighthouse in what might just be the Twilight Zone. It’s a beautifully photographed black-and-white film shot with vintage lenses with careful attention paid to period details not just in the set dressing and wardrobe, but with the dialects and even the mannerisms. Dafoe and Pattinson deliver amazing performances and the mood and sense of dread are as thick as the New England fog, but do all those things add up to an excellent film? Join us for a discussion about why this film worked or didn’t, and why it’s bad luck to mess with a seagull.
